Porsche is a German luxury sports car company, founded in 1931 in Stuttgart by the Bohemian Ferdinand Porsche.
Ferdinand Porsche became known for his work for the Volkswagen, creating the first model of popular use at the request of Adolf Hitler, Volks in fact in the genitive case of the word means people, while Wagen corresponds to car. Hitler himself in 1938 requested the creation of a more performing car model and Ferdinand, together with his son “Ferry”, gave shape to the first legendary Porsche model, namely the 356which will be produced in both convertible and coupe versions.
Porsche has produced some of the most iconic and beloved sports cars of all time, including the Porsche 911which went into production from 1963. Originally it was supposed to be called Porsche 901 but at the time Peugeot had already registered all numbers for their cars with the digit zero in a central position.
The Porsche 911 was first introduced at Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963 and has been a great success since its debut. The original design was created by Ferdinand”Butzi” Porsche, grandson of the company founder, featured a two-door body with clean, elegant lines and an air-cooled six-cylinder rear engine, which has become a trademark for Porsche.
How has the Porsche 911 evolved over the years and what will the future hold for this legendary model?
The Porsche 911 has suffered many evolutions over the years, but the basic idea has remained the same. The engine has been improved, the body has been redesigned to improve speed and efficiency, but the main feature of the Porsche 911 – its agilityhas been maintained.
In the 90s, Porsche introduced the Porsche 993which was the final version of the Porsche 911 series with an air-cooled engine, while in 1997, the Porsche 996, which represented a breakthrough for the company as it was the first Porsche 911 with a liquid-cooled engine.
The Porsche 911 has continued to evolve and improve over the years, with the introduction of the Porsche 997 in 2005 and of the Porsche 991 in 2011. The latter saw the introduction of new technologies, such as a seven-speed PDK gearbox, an all-wheel drive system and an aluminum body. In 2019, Porsche unveiled the new Porsche 911, known as the Porsche 992. The new version saw the introduction of new technologies such as the Porsche Communication Management System and the new Porsche Wet Mode, which helps the driver manage driving in rainy conditions.
For the near future there are some truly extraordinary rumors. The German company will most likely produce the new one 911 Turbo with a decisive stylistic change of the rear. This indicates how the new model arriving in 2024 will be in version hybrid, therefore needing much more space for the batteries and to incorporate the bulky electrification system. In fact, the German engineers had to work hard on the rear bonnet to try to gain volume to place the accessories of the new engine that was no longer totally internal combustion. For posterity the arduous sentence in decreeing or not the success of this new model signed Porsche!
