Porsche Taycan vs Tesla Model S: the duel in acceleration

If Porsche wants to make the Taycan the benchmark for electric sedans, the “old” Tesla Model S still has energy to spare. The two rivals competed in the 400-meter standing start.

Since the announcement of the first electric Porsche, the Taycan wants to devour the Tesla Model S. With the best lap of the Nürburgring, or repeated exercises of acceleration, the German wanted to prove her superiority. But the firm of Elon Musk responds with updates to optimize its machine.

A match without question

The British media Carwow therefore engages a duel at the top between the two electric sedans. On a take-off runway, the two vehicles engage in the exercise of acceleration (drag race in English). Journalist Mat Watson sits in the Model S Performance with Cheetah mode of 825 hp / 1,300 Nm, and faces the Taycan Turbo S with its 761 hp / 1,050 Nm.

On the first few meters, the Porsche takes a small lead. However, the Tesla is sticking and seems able to catch up. But the opposite is happening. Finally, the Taycan pulls away from the gaze and crosses the line in first position. To verify the result, Matt Watson launches a second try, this time with a different setting. It configures the suspensions of the Tesla at the lowest on “Low”. Here, the Model S sets off faster, and is on par with the Porsche. But the illusion does not last, and the Taycan dominates once again! In the end, the Teutonne completed the 400 meters in 10.3 seconds, a tenth better than the Californian.

Who wins in real life?

With a greater weight of 54 kg, less power and torque, the Porsche Taycan wins the duel by 2 to 0. Aerodynamics must play in part, the German showing 7 cm less in height. On the other hand, does this justify the price difference? In France, the Tesla costs 100,990 €, against 189,934 for the Porsche!

The 400-meter standing start is all well and good, but what are two cars worth in real life? The answer in the video below.
