The upcoming new version of the Porsche Taycan achieved a time of 7:07.55 on the North Loop of the Nürburgring. This is within range of the Rimac Nevera hypersport. Which version of the Taycan it is, however, the automaker is keeping to itself for now.
The Porsche car company boasted the record of its Taycan model on the North Loop of the Nürburgring. Lars Kern lapped the car labeled as a “pre-production Taycan” in 7:07.55, making it not only the fastest electric Porsche on the Nordschleife, but also the fastest four-door electric car on the famous circuit.
This record was previously held by the Tesla Model S Plaid with a time of 7:25.231. This means that the Taycan is almost 18 seconds faster – that’s a huge difference even on a circuit of more than twenty kilometers. The new time is 26 seconds faster than the previous Taycan Turbo S and just 2.25 seconds slower than Rimac Nevera, who completed the “Green Hell” in 7:05.298, an absolute record for production electric cars.
“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ time of 7:07.55 on the Nordschleife is sensational, sending the Taycan into the same league as electric hypersports,” says Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan range. “What’s impressive is that Lars was running almost the same times for several laps,” adds Giek.
In the video and photos, the Taycan shows different bumpers from the production versions known today, as well as a large wing on the back. The automaker didn’t say anything about it other than that it’s a “pre-production Taycan” – we don’t know its parameters or even its name. The website Motor1 speculates that it could be called the Turbo GT and have three electric motors with a total output of around a thousand horsepower.
What the record-breaking car definitely has is a roll cage and bucket seats in the interior. Porsche does not hide their installation, it is justified by safety. However, it is appropriate to ask how much of a production car we really have in front of us – in a four-door, primarily luxury electric car, we estimate that customers would not really appreciate a cage and multi-point belts.
But whatever the interior equipment says, the automaker is trying to draw attention, apparently, to the capabilities of the new electrical system. We should expect onboard from the record-breaking ride in March of this year. When the production version of this super-fast version of the Taycan will be presented is still in the stars.
