Porsche Taycan: a new body announced

Porsche is preparing to present a new body variant as well as a new powertrain for its electric Taycan.

Porsche unveils its program for the 2021 Los Angeles auto show, which will be held from November 19 to 28. The recently announced 718 Cayman GT4 RS will make its first public appearance there, and she won’t be the only one. The German manufacturer announces a original body variant for the Taycan, without further details. The first all-electric Porsche is currently available as a sedan as well as a raised station wagon with the Cross Turismo suffix. Various rumors have been circulating for some time about new versions, up to a convertible, but the track of a more traditional station wagon named Taycan Sport Turismo is the most likely.

From the fall of 2018, before the launch of the Taycan that we know, a model resembling a Cross Turismo but devoid of the black body protections typical of SUVs had been surprised during a development test session. Furthermore, Porsche registered last summer in several countries the name Sport Turismo yet already used to designate the Panamera station wagon. Finally, the photo published by Porsche as a teaser shows, under a sheet, a car whose silhouette seems close to that of the Cross Turismo. In addition to a less adventurous aspect, a Taycan Sport Turismo should stand out from the latter by a lower ground clearance, in favor of aerodynamics and therefore autonomy.

A Taycan GTS approaching

Besides this new body, Porsche will present in Los Angeles a new engine for the Taycan, which will be inserted in the range between the 530 hp 4S and the 680 hp Turbo. If we follow the traditional nomenclature of the brand, it should be a Taycan GTS offering a maximum power of approximately 600 hp. It remains to be seen whether it will be offered in the three types of bodywork that will soon be included in the Taycan range. Response very soon.
