Has there been a moment in recent years when Porsche, or any other sub-brand belonging to the Volkswagen group, has not been associated with Formula 1? No, actually not, but the plans for a return to Formula 1 seem to be becoming more concrete. This is possible as an independent constructor, but also as an engine supplier when the new engines see the light of day in F1 in 2025 or 2026.
As Porsche motorsport boss Thomas Laudenbach by the German RTL When asked whether an F1 comeback is in it, he sets three conditions for such a comeback. One thing is not lacking in advance: “The PR and marketing value of F1 is undisputed. It is no secret that we are thinking about it and certain things seem to be going in the right direction,” said Laudenbach, before listing his list .

Three strict requirements
“Motorsport as a podium must remain relevant for the regular automotive industry. So there will have to be a greater emphasis on electrical applications, including in Formula 1.”
As a second point, Laudenbach points out a budget limit: “The ceiling (for team expenses, ed.) is a good first step, but such a ceiling should also apply to drivers, although that is something that is already being discussed.”
A final condition, and certainly not the least important for Porsche, is that one must be able to be competitive: “An entry can only be justified if all participants can start from an equal basis. The total package must be correct in all areas.”
