The Porsche Macan is a status symbol of elegance and performance, an imposing SUV that does not give up anything, in full Porsche tradition. The good news is that the new model is on its way, which will focus everything on electrification. Today we know a lot more details.
The electric version will arrive in 2024 and will be a very important model for the electrification strategy of the German carmaker. For this battery-powered SUV, therefore completely devoid of an internal combustion engine, the manufacturer will use all the experience acquired with the Taycan, which from this point of view was the forerunner for the German company. Posche will debut the new PPE platform developed in collaboration with Audi and Volkswagen with the Macan EVM.
Power, agility and charging times reduced to the bone: these are the promises of the new electric Porsche Macan. The German automaker’s first 100% electric SUV is almost ready to show itself to the general public and the test drivers are busy traveling the world to fine-tune what will be promoter of PPE (Premium Platform Electric)the new Volkswagen Group platform developed for high-end electric carsand also used by Audi (and presumably also Seat and Skoda being part of the same automotive group).
Porsche Macan EV: performance and range
Efficiency ahead of everything. Modular and with the battery pack once again positioned in the floor under the passenger compartment, the PPE inherits from the sports Taycan and Audi e-tron GT the800V architecture with the possibility of direct current recharging up to a maximum power of 270 kW, but giving up the two-speed transmission in favor of new technical solutions to improve efficiency and weight distribution.
Among all, the one that Porsche calls the Integrated Power Box stands out, a “box” positioned in front of the rear axle in correspondence with the second row of seats which integrates the battery charger, the DC-DC power converter and the battery heating system high voltage. The two motors, one per axle, synchronized with permanent magnets have been evolved from the Taycan units with more effective (water) cooling and a different arrangement of the magnets inside the motor.
Fast, even when filling up. The new electric Porsche Macan will be available in multiple power levels, with the most performing versions capable of delivering up to approximately 610 HP and 1,000 Nm of maximum torque. Around Stuttgart, details are still lacking regarding acceleration times and top speed, as well as battery life, but what is certain is that the The Macan EV will have the range-recharge speed combo as its primary objectiveso as to reduce dead times and stops at columns. In fact, by loading the car at a 350 kW column 25 minutes will be enough to charge the car up to 80% starting from 5% of residual charge.
The appointment for the debut is therefore set for 2024, but before then we will certainly have many more details. Stay tuned!
