New Performance-Focused Model: Porsche Introduces the S/T

Introduction

Porsche, known for its high-performance reputation, continues to innovate even amidst the advent of BEV technology. Despite their expanding lineup, including plush cruisers, track monsters, and special editions, Porsche introduces the latest addition to the iconic sports car, the S/T. This new performance-focused model is aimed to stand out and redefine the driving experience.

The S/T: A Unique Offering

While resembling the GT3 Touring on the surface, the Porsche S/T carves its distinctive identity among the 911 lineup. Shedding the large fixed rear wing, the S/T features an active rear spoiler, providing a balance of aesthetics and performance. Porsche’s engineers have made essential updates to ensure this model outshines not just the fast 911s but also its competitors.

The canyon roads around Los Angeles are natural hunting territory for the S/T.

The ST Legacy

The S/T wants to evoke the racing heritage of the late 1960s with its name, which paid homage to the ST 911 S model. Unlike later track-tuned 911s, the former lacked the aggressive aerodynamic elements but had performance-focused modifications to the chassis, engine, and body.

Innovative Powertrain and Weight Reduction

Porsche has amalgamated the GT division lineup to infuse the S/T with an intriguing powertrain. Combining the 518 HP (386 kW) 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the GT3 RS with the GT3’s six-speed manual transmission, this unique and unmatchable configuration sets the S/T apart. The extensive use of carbon fiber and lightweight components reduces the weight to a mere 3,056 lbs (1,390 kg), making it the lightest 911 of the current generation.

No ducktail for the S/T. But there is plenty of lightweighting.

Unparalleled Driving Experience

Achieving driving engagement and focused performance, the S/T transcends expectations. By removing rear axle steering and refining the suspension dampers, Porsche aimed to create the ultimate canyon carver. The transmission has been enhanced with a shorter shift lever for precise gear changes, shorter gear ratios for enhanced acceleration, and a lightweight clutch and single mass flywheel for an exceptional driving experience.

Furthermore, the S/T’s focused approach on performance has led to reduced sound deadening, allowing the engine’s sound and mechanical processes to take center stage. This creates an immersive and exciting symphony of driving pleasure.
