Those who don’t follow the rules don’t like to be caught. A Porsche driver had therefore installed a special technique to remain undetected.

If you get flashed, it can be quite expensive under certain circumstances. Especially when you don’t have yourself under control, such as a car driver who crashed into the same speed trap three times within five hours or a Munich resident who was flashed a record 85 times in one month. In order to avoid trouble with the law enforcement officers, a Porsche driver in Canada had installed a very special technology.

Like James Bond: Police stop Porsche with automatic license plate cover

Milton, Ontario, police report that officers there stopped a Porsche Panamera 4S with some sort of automatic license plate cover. The authority published a video of it on Twitter (see below). Within about two seconds, the number plate disappears behind a black cover, and it reappears in the same amount of time. The driver could control the cover via a button from the driver’s seat. The technology is a bit reminiscent of the variable number plates from James Bond films – Michael Knight’s KITT company car also had a similar system installed in the 1980s cult series “Knight Rider”.

Porsche driver with automatic license plate cover: Did he want to save on toll fees?

The whole thing was loud CTV News Toronto when the Porsche passed a police vehicle – and officers noticed the rear license plate was missing. On closer inspection, however, they subsequently discovered the covering device. The driver now has to pay a fine of 110 Canadian dollars (about 75 euros). However, the Porsche driver faces even more trouble, because there is a suspicion that he also wanted to save himself the toll fees on Highway 407 with the cover.

Of course, nowadays there is no longer any need for a “Q” to equip a car with such a device; if you search the Internet long enough, you will find the appropriate sales outlets. Also for “number plate changers”, with which the police caught a Mercedes driver some time ago. In contrast to an official variable number plate, as we know it here in Germany, such a thing is of course illegal.
