Porsche comes with a new circuit weapon. Welcome to the Cayman GT4 RS

Porsche has unveiled a new top of the 718 model line, the Cayman GT4 RS. Although it does not go to the absolute extreme in terms of weight reduction, it has undergone a number of major changes for the best possible performance on the racing circuit.

One of the most important is the new engine. A four-liter flat six-cylinder has moved between the cab and the rear axle, which can handle up to 9,000 rpm and offers 500 hp and 450 Nm without any supercharging. That’s 80 hp more than the top-of-the-line GT4.

One significant modification is the carbon intake manifold instead of the rear windows. In addition to breathing the engine better, the change also serves to improve the sound of the engine – the line is right behind the crew heads on both sides.

Only the PDK dual-clutch gearbox will work with the engine. Don’t be fooled by the photos showing the manual gearshift knob – this only masks the gear selector. For a car focused primarily on circuit fun, the choice of a transmission that can shift as quickly as possible is understandable, but you still can’t shake the impression that the manual can find its customers.

It looks like a manual transmission gear lever, but it’s a masked dual clutch selector.

But back to the introduced place. The second key element of the GT4 RS is a fundamentally redesigned aerodynamics. The most significant novelty is the rear wing suspended from above, as with the 911 GT3 gen. 992 and racing 911 RSR GT – according to the carmaker, such a wing is more effective than if it stood on a stand.

The wing cooperates with the diffuser under the rear bumper and a new, adjustable front diffuser also works to improve aerodynamic properties. In the Performance setting mode, which is designed exclusively for racing tracks, the pressure improvement compared to the GT4 cayman should be up to twenty-five percent.

The car in the photos is equipped with the Weissach package, which includes a carbon version of various parts indoors and outdoors, a titanium protective half-cage, titanium exhaust tailpipes, the upper part of the dashboard made of micro-fiber Race-Tex or special 20-inch forged wheels. You can exchange it for magnesium at an additional cost.

You can also wear magnesium wheels on magnesium wheels.

It is also equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, the front discs of which are 410 mm in diameter and the rear 390 mm. The standard is a completely adjustable suspension with a redesigned geometry, so that customers can adjust the behavior of the car exactly to their liking.

And also carbon front fenders with air vents from the front wheels or a hood with intake vents NACA (short for National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), which is the American predecessor of today’s NASA, and this committee introduced in 1945 this roughly triangular shape of the intake opening with regard to the lowest possible air resistance).

Holes in the carbon hood and fenders are one of the novelties for the RS version.

Carbon is used mainly to reduce weight, which is successful – the car weighs 1415 kg, which is 35 kg less than the GT4 version equipped with PDK transmission. Nevertheless, the developers could go even further – we see that there is a radio with navigation, dual-zone air conditioning or electric windows and mirrors in the car. However, we are still talking about a car that has license plates and can drive on normal roads, so maintaining a certain basic comfort of the crew is needed.

Did the results come? According to a press release, the GT4 RS is 23.6 seconds faster on the 20.6 km long version of the North Loop of the Nürburgring, so it certainly is. You will be able to try it for yourself if you have at least 3,987,000 crowns, for which it is sold with us.
