Is it possible to make a thriller film exciting by revealing the face of the villain? This question will be answered by watching the debutant Vignesh Raja’s ‘Por Prabham’. Despite being made in the mold of investigation thriller films, the film gives the audience a thrilling experience. This is because of the way the story is told and the improbable performances of the actors. ‘Por Prabhat’ is undoubtedly one of the best thriller films of recent times.
The theme of the film is a series of murders and finding the killer behind them, as in typical investigation thriller films. To tell that, the director uses two main characters. Crime Branch SP presented by Sarathkumar. Lokanathan and a police officer named Prakash who has just entered the service. Ashok Selvan plays Prakash, a police officer with a few fears. Prakash has to undertake the task of assisting Lokanathan, who is senior in the service and smart in the department, in the case. Nikhila Vimal’s character Veena helps them with documentation. The trio travels from Chennai on a special deputation to investigate a series of murders in Trichy.
Ashok Selvan’s fears at the beginning of the film often create humorous moments that ease the tension of the case investigation. The scenes are interesting without any hitches. The film progresses without inserting special scenes to establish the characters of Sarathkumar and Ashok Selvan. As the investigation progresses, the past of these characters and the reasons for their unique characteristics are revealed.
There is always a story in these movies as to why the villain commits these murders. It’s likely that troubled teenagers often create ultra-brutal serial killers. ‘War Occupation’ seeks to answer the pertinent question of whether a criminal’s actions can be justified by a haunted past. ‘Por Prabham’ ends with a beautiful answer to the dilemma of whether to sympathize or sympathize with criminals. The script which parallels a strong emotional track with a thriller story is definitely appreciated.
The screenplay is written by director Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash. The screenplay is the hero of this movie. The right thrill of the film is given by asking the question of who will be the villain without distracting the audience too much. When it is revealed that this is the villain in front of the audience who are ready to ‘meet’ the villain, the question of what will happen next will surely fill the curiosity. Jakes Bejoy has composed the perfect background score for this briskly moving quest. Even some silences can shock the audience. But the film does not present the signature BGM that comes with it from the theatre.
The backbone of the movie is the magnificent performances of Sarathkumar and Ashok Selvan. Both the characters have equal importance in the film. The audience will feel like the two officers who are not confined to the shadow of the senior officer, but interact with each other. The screen chemistry of the two is such that anyone can like it. Sarathkumar’s best performance in recent times is Crime Branch SP Lokanathan. The director has used his experience and screen charisma beautifully. Flexibility and clarity in dialogue delivery and performance will captivate the audience.
Prakash, a police officer who is afraid of the dark and lacks confidence, is safe in the hands of Ashok Selvan. Nikhila Vimal’s Veena is a small but full character from the beginning to the end. Although not a very important role, Nikhila’s presence gives the audience some good moments. Apart from Nikhila, Santhosh Keezhatoor and Sunil Sukhada have played notable roles.
Sreejith Sarang is the editor of the film. The editing accurately marked the speed and agility of the thriller film. The production design of the film was also excellent. Camera is by Kalaiselvan Sivaji. He has captured the night scenes beautifully. The fight scenes were also good. Lord Phoenix was in charge of the conflict. In short, ‘Por Prabhup’ is one of the best post-Covid thrillers. If you want to enjoy that thrilling experience in its fullest sense, don’t miss the theater viewing.
