Wiesbaden / Magdeburg (dpa / sa) – Women in Saxony-Anhalt get their first child later in life. Last year, mothers were 28.9 years old on average when their first baby was born, as the Federal Statistical Office announced in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. Five years earlier, the value was 28.1 years. Across Germany, mothers were 30.1 years old when their first child was born in 2019.

The average number of children per woman in Saxony-Anhalt in 2019 was 1.56, throughout Germany the value was 1.54.
