“Population Crisis: Countries Facing Declining Birth Rates and Incentives for Migrants”

Jakarta

The population crisis is being experienced by several countries in recent times. Countries like China and Japan are experiencing population declines due to low birth rates.

This can happen due to mishandling from the government to changes in the mindset of people who are starting to be reluctant to have children. The following are some countries in the world that are experiencing a population crisis:

China

China is known as one of the countries with the largest population in the world. This is the first time China has experienced a population decline in 60 years.

The Chinese government’s policy of implementing the 1 child program is said to be one of the main causes of the decline in China’s population. The policy that was implemented from 1979 to 2015 was originally carried out to control the population, but now it has caused a decrease in the birth rate and an imbalance in the sex ratio.

Japan

The birth rate in Japan in 2022 is only 799,728. This figure is almost half lower than in the last 40 years.

Not only is the birth rate low, the death rate in Japan has even exceeded the birth rate in more than a decade. Many Japanese people are reluctant to have children because of the high cost of living, limited space, and a lack of childcare assistance.

South Korea

South Korea is the country with the lowest birth rate in the world. South Korea only has a birth rate of 0.78 births per woman. This figure is far from the 2.1 needed to maintain population stability.

‘Sex recession’ or decreased desire to have sex, marry and have children, is one of the causes of reduced birth rates in South Korea. The marriage rate in South Korea is known to have decreased by 35 percent in the last 10 years.

Italia

Not only countries in Asia, western countries like Italy are also facing severe population problems. Several regions in Italy decided to offer incentives for newcomers to come to their area.

One of them is a small town called Candela which offers as much as 800 euros (Rp. 12.9 million) for singles, 1,300 euros (Rp. 21 million) for couples and 2,000 euros (Rp. 32.3 million) for families to want to move to the village. .

The condition for obtaining the funds is that they must rent a property in Candela and make it their primary residence. In addition, immigrants must also have an income of at least 7,500 euros (Rp. 121.3 million) per year.

Greece

Apart from Italy, Greece is also a European country that has to face a large population problem. Greece has been experiencing population decline since 2015 and is expected to continue.

The population of Greece has decreased from 11.23 million to 10.42 million in just 15 years. Education, economic instability, and female unemployment are said to be several contributing factors.

To overcome this, several regions in Greece offer incentives for migrants who want to settle down. The Orthodox Church on the island of Antikythera will give newcomers a plot of land and 500 euros (Rp 8.1 million) per month for three years if they live there.

Spanish

Several small areas of Spain are also experiencing population decline problems. Many of its young citizens decide to live in urban areas.

Some areas, such as Ponga, a small village in the mountains of northern Spain, even offer young couples 3,000 euros (Rp. 48.5 million) to move there for 5 years. If during their stay in Ponga there are children, the couple will receive an additional 3,000 euros per child.

Chili

Chile has also been carrying out a program to encourage new business in the country since 2016. The local government is ready to provide financial assistance for businesses ranging from US$14,000 (Rp. 206.4 million) to US$80,000 (Rp. 1.1 billion) and a 1 year stay visa. year.

United States of America

The problem of population crisis is also experienced by several states in the United States. Some states even impose incentives for anyone who wants to live and work in their area.

For example, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, remote workers are offered up to $10,000 (Rp. 147.5 million).

Apart from that, Topeka, Kansas is also offering funds of up to US$15,000 (Rp. 221.3 million) for workers who want to live in their area on condition that they rent or buy property in Topeka and make it their main residence.
