There are cars that cannot be sold because they are not on the used car market. The Chevrolet Spark exceeded 20,000 units in the first half of this year alone. Chevrolet Damas, Kia Stinger, Hyundai Veloster N, and i30 are also popular models. According to K-Car’s ranking of popular models in the used car market on the 16th, the Chevrolet Spark, a compact car that was discontinued last year, came in fourth. Spark was ranked 4th in the total used car transaction volume in the first half of this year as a result of the Kaizuyu Data Lab’s tally. The average time from listing to selling was 33 days.

Kika said Chevrolet’s light commercial vehicle Damas is also popular in the used car market. Although it has been two years since it was discontinued, it has become a popular product because there is no new model for light commercial vehicles to replace it. “The average sales period for Damas is 27 days, 14 days earlier than the same period last year,” said Keika. The Damas is Chevrolet’s light commercial vehicle sold from 1991 to 2021, with about 370,000 units produced. It has been a companion for small business owners and self-employed people because it is good for carrying small items. However, the width of the body is narrow, but the height is high, so it is not safe when turning, so it does not meet the new safety standards required by the government since 2014. Eventually, after repeated delays, Damas was discontinued.

Even after being discontinued, there are models that are steadily sold in the used car market. In the case of the Kia Stinger, the average sales period in the first half of last year was 64 days, but in the first half of this year, it was looking for a new owner in 44 days. It is an analysis that it is still popular because it is a sports sedan that is difficult to find in Korea. The Kia Stinger sold about 25,000 units in Korea for about six years and ended production in April this year. Although the Hyundai Veloster N and i30 have also been discontinued, Keika analyzed that there is demand from enthusiasts. The average sales period of i30 is 24 days, about 7 days earlier than before the discontinuation. “According to the Automobile Management Act, automobile manufacturers are obliged to retain parts for at least 8 years even after discontinuing a car,” said Hwang Gyu-seok, head of K-Car’s diagnosis department. It is good to do it,” he advised.
