Kooveri: On New Year’s Day, local people floated a raft in the river to celebrate Terandikadavam. Here the locals traveled for miles to reach the other side. Later, under the guidance of panchayat member C. Padmanabhan, the locals formed a committee and built a raft. People’s Committee officials KV Sukumaran and KV Bhaskaran spoke.

VVBhaskaran and M.Santosh, who built the raft, were honoured. 25 years ago, when public planning activities were started in the state, the most well-known was the footbridge built by local people at Terandikadav. The catwalk even became the cover of foreign magazines. But when the bridge collapsed over time, the old canoe was the only way for the locals to get to the other side. Even the ferry stopped 8 years ago. Requests to build a permanent bridge here yielded no results. With the arrival of the raft, the travel problems of the natives will be reduced.
