Five people from a family in Póvoa de Lanhoso are infected with covid-19, after the screening tests carried out in the last week were positive. Information is advanced by Newspaper and was confirmed by O MINHO.
The couple, around 60 years old, and their three children, are in compulsory isolation in the house they own in Covelas, after having passed through a private hospital and the Hospital de Braga.
As we learned from the public hospital, the family patriarch, 64, went to that unit with some flu-like symptoms. As there were no serious signs of hospitalization, the hospital followed the protocol and recommended isolation at home until the test was carried out, scheduled in an outpatient clinic for the second working day after being evaluated, as dictated by the Directorate-General for Health.
However, the user complains of having seen the clinical picture aggravated during the night and, dissatisfied with having been advised to wait at home, he went to a private unit, carried out the test that proved positive.
The wife, who also had some symptoms, underwent the test at the Hospital de Braga, according to the protocol, and ended up accusing it also positive. However, the three children also performed the tests, confirming that they were positive.
It is not known where the origin of the family outbreak was, whether it was the children that infected the parents or vice versa, but the family, says the JN, accuses Braga hospital of negligence for sending his father home.
Contacted by O MINHO, the hospital unit refutes the accusations, indicating that the criteria that all hospitals follow have been followed.
“In cases of clinically stable patients, without signs of severity, isolation recommendations are given and they are scheduled to test on an outpatient basis, as a rule, on the second following working day”, explains the hospital, justifying the patient’s return home. user when traveling to the emergency room.
The hospital also explains that, in cases of patients “who have severe clinical conditions and who necessarily need hospitalization, the test is performed immediately”.
“In the case presented and the need for hospitalization is not justified, the first criterion described above applies”, highlights the health unit.
Regarding the man having been tested in private, the hospital says it was “of his own choice”, since he had a test scheduled for the next day. It should be noted that the wife complied with the protocol and performed the test at that health unit.
“Braga Hospital scrupulously complies with the rules defined by the competent authorities, and all patients with suspected covid-19 are submitted to the respective laboratory test”, he explains.
