Revolut has been offering data roaming since the beginning of the year. The inexpensive offer is well received by the Swiss.
This week Revolut announced its plans to launch an offensive in Switzerland. The fintech recently opened a branch in Switzerland and plans to offer all banking services in the country in the future. An existing offer is data roaming, which is very popular Trade newspaper writes.
The most important thing in brief
- Revolut’s eSim offer has been used over 40,000 times in Switzerland
- Compared to other Swiss data roaming providers, the Revolut offer is cheaper
- The Swiss fintech neon is also following suit when it comes to eSim
eSim hits a nerve with the Swiss
At the beginning of April, Revolut expanded its product range and has since enabled its users to purchase a Revolut eSim Card. Customers can book data volumes for their travel country directly in the Revolut app and use them directly via the eSim. Revolut thus creates a practical and simple solution for surfing internationally and activating an international data flat rate at the touch of a button – either for one country or for all 108 possible countries at the same time using the Global eSim.

Revolut’s new offering is enjoying great success in Switzerland. To date, the opportunity has been used over 40,000 times. Countries that are particularly popular with Swiss people are the USA, Turkey, Great Britain and the United Arab Emirates. There was a particularly noticeable rush in summer.
Unlike Germany or France, the Swiss are often confronted with high roaming fees outside of Switzerland. The reason for this is Switzerland’s non-EU status. While it has been a legal requirement in the EU since 2017 that citizens can use their mobile services in other EU countries at no extra charge, this regulation does not apply to Swiss citizens. As a result, many are looking to alternatives such as Revolut’s affordable eSIM offerings to save costs.

The different price-performance ratios of different providers in Switzerland are clearly shown in the following example of a 5 gigabyte data roaming package in the economic metropolis of Singapore. The duration of the offers varies:
- Revolut: 9.50 francs
- Swisscom: 49.50 francs
- Sunrise: 59.90 Franken
- Salt: 49.95 francs for 3 gigabytes, as no 5 gigabyte package is offered
eSim also with neon
The success does not go unnoticed. The Swiss fintech neon is also following suit and is offering an eSim offer from the company Saily via its app. Unlike Revolut, however, you cannot book and pay directly on the neon app, but instead go to a separate app, whereby a new registration is necessary.
