“My Kitchen Rules” stars Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleton have lost their little daughter, Poppy Grace Middleton (20 months).
The couple themselves sign it Instagramwhere they have documented the little girl’s fight against the disease.
– A huge shock
Little Poppy had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a type of blood cancer in which a particular type of white blood cell, the lymphocytes, multiply unhindered.
Stumbled – death was near
According to Norwegian Health Informatics this causes the number of red blood cells, normal white blood cells and platelets to decrease.
– Few red blood cells make you anemic, you get anaemia. Fewer normal white blood cells make you less resistant to infections. Fewer platelets make you bleed unusually easily, they write.
After Poppy received the grim diagnosis, one was created GoFundMe– collection where parents regularly shared updates.
– The diagnosis came as a huge shock, because the only symptom she had was vomiting. She didn’t even have a fever, they write there.
– Fought to the last breath
Despite the vague symptoms, the parents say that they acted quickly, and that Poppy was diagnosed relatively early. She was only 12 weeks old.
– It is rare for babies to get leukaemia, the parents write.
In a heartbreaking update shared on Instagram Thursday last weekthe parents write that little Poppy is dead:
– We lost our dear Poppy Grace this morning. She fought tooth and nail until her last breath, but the leukemia took over, they write.
Furthermore, they say that the daughter has had a strong will to fight the disease. They describe the last few days as traumatic.
Macabre find in beach paradise
– Poppy made the most of her time on earth, she danced, smiled and laughed until just days before the end. We are honored to have been her mothers, and we didn’t take a second of it for granted.
– All-consuming love
Poppy Grace was only 20 months old, but leaves a huge void:
– She taught us so much in her short 20 months. We have never experienced such all-consuming love.
For children, teenagers and adults who have followed Poppy’s battle against cancer, the mothers have the following message:
– We are so sorry to have to share this. We know many of you cheered her on, prayed for her, donated blood and sent her gifts. We will not break their hearts.
Asking people to donate blood
Now the parents want everyone who has helped Poppy along the way to honor her memory by donating blood.
While she was still alive, the parents created a separate donation group in their daughter’s name, to help other sick children like Poppy.
– Please, continue to donate blood in her name, they plead.
Dream cruise ended in tragedy
Furthermore, both Carly and Tresne promise to emerge stronger from this tragedy – for Poppy’s sake.
– We just don’t know how to do it yet. The purpose in our life is gone. But we will be back soon, and will live our lives to the fullest in her name. Until then, we will rest so we can rise for Poppy’s sake, who will forever be 20 months old. 💔
