Popeyes, a famous chicken restaurant across the Atlantic, arrives at the Lyon Part-Dieu shopping center, where it will directly compete with KFC. The Louisiana fast food restaurant opens Wednesday, September 6 at 11 a.m.

Lyon news went there the day before. Chicken marinated for 12 hours, menu at 8 euros, future dark kitchen in Villeurbanne… we take stock of what awaits future customers.

A menu from 8 euros

Xavier Expilly, director of operations at Popeyes, welcomes the press on Tuesday 5 September. The man is a specialist in the launches of major fast food restaurants (he participated in that of Burger King).

Popeyes was born in 1972. Today, the brand has 4,200 restaurants located in 32 different countries. France has become a priority with the opening of two restaurants in Paris and one in Brest. After a failed first foray in 2018, the fried chicken specialists are back.

The Lyon Part-Dieu brand relies on “excellent value for money, generous portions and quality fresh produce. The basic menu is, in fact, affordable: from 8 euros. There are even chicken fillets from 2 euros. “The chicken comes from Brittany and the flour from the Grands Moulins de Paris,” says Xavier Expilly.

Quality chicken and generous portions

The requirement in the kitchen seems appropriate. It is clear, after making our own Chicken sandwich (the house specialty), that the chicken is good quality for a fast food restaurant and the menus are quite substantial. Be careful though, the spicy version of the tenders and the sauce can surprise you with their intensity…

Customers will order at kiosks outside and inside the restaurant located on the third floor of the mall, between KFC and Au Bureau. Then, they will wait in their place for the meal to be served in reusable dishes (now mandatory for fast food restaurants).

A 245-seat restaurant… and soon a dark kitchen

“We will clear the tables ourselves,” we are told. In total there are 245 places in this new Popeyes with a terrace through which it is also possible to enter. The American brand has recruited 120 people to provide efficient service.

Moreover, the franchise is still recruiting in Lyon. “We are going to open a dark kitchen in october in Villeurbanne,” Xavier Expilly tells us. These kitchens, which will only be used for delivery from eastern Lyon with Deliveroo, should soon be set up.

However, in Lyon and Villeurbanne, dark kitchens are not really viewed favorably by elected officials. “There is no subject on this subject”, sweeps the director of operations of Popeyes.

“We are expecting an average of 80,000 customers per month”

The latter looks back on the opening of the restaurant on 6.9 (September 6). “We expect an average of 80,000 customers per month. I estimate that in a year, the equivalent of the population of the metropolis of Lyon will have eaten here before. »

Popeyes, which opens for the first time in the capital of Gaul, will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. He relies on the crowds of the shopping center, the attendance of the third floor reserved for restaurants and the cinema, as well as on French people who consume more and more chickens…
