Pope: Let us pray and stand for peace

At the end of the general audience on October 16, the Pope turned again to the countries suffering from war: Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, and again urged not to forget that “war is a loss”. Then he mentioned the blessed Polish priest Jericho Popeluszko, who was killed by the communists, who in his life taught to overcome evil with good.

Speaking to the participants of the world conference “Radio Maria”, who had come to the Vatican from different parts of the world, Francis called on communication workers to spread the values of fraternity and solidarity. The Holy Father also reminded that on October 17 the Church celebrates the liturgical memorial day of Saint Ignatius of Antioch. He was the shepherd of the Church who “burned in love for Christ.” The Pope said:

“May his example help everyone to discover the joy of being a Christian. Let’s not forget countries that are at war; let’s not forget Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar. Brothers and sisters, let us not forget that war is always, always a loss. Let’s remember it, let’s pray and stand for peace. My blessing to you all.”

Welcoming the Polish pilgrims, the Pope mentioned the blessed priest Jerzy Popeluszko, because this year marks the 40th anniversary of his martyrdom. “This blessed man, who taught to overcome evil with good, will support you in promoting unity in the spirit of truth and respect for man,” said Francis.
