Pope Francis was discharged from the hospital ten days after the operation

On Wednesday, July 14, Pope Francis was discharged from Rome’s Agostino Gemelli hospital ten days after colon surgery, according to the US portal CNN.

Before returning to the Vatican, the pope went to St. Mary Maggiore’s Basilica, where he prayed for the successful surgery and prayed for all the sick, especially those he met while in hospital, the Vatican spokesman said.

On Sunday, July 11, the 84-year-old pope addressed the faithful and prayed from the hospital balcony. It was the first time the Pope appeared to the general public after the operation.

“In these days that I have spent in hospital, I have once again seen the importance of good health care – accessible to all – as it is in Italy and many other countries. A health system that is free and provides good service for all, ”the pope said in his address.

On July 4, the pope had an operation on part of his colon due to inflammation.

This was the first time Francis had to be hospitalized since he became pope in 2013.
