Amid an outpouring of birthday wishes, Pope Francis encouraged Christians to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus.

On Sunday, December 17, Pope Francis turned 87 years old. As he regularly does every Christmas, Papa Santa Marta Dharma Hospital spent time with the children and their families. The children sang birthday wishes and presented a cake to Papa. For 90 years, Santa Martha Dharma Hospital has been providing urgent help to needy children and their families. Founded by Pope Pius XI in 1922, this hospital is not far from where Pope Francis lives in the Vatican.
Papa shared the joy of seeing them all and called the children to prepare for the big feast coming next week. The Pope told them that Christmas is a festival to remember that Jesus came into the world to live with us and therefore prepare to receive Jesus wholeheartedly. The Pope asked everyone to close their eyes and think in silence what they would like to ask Jesus for this Christmas. The Pope wished them a happy Easter with smiles and may the Lord grant them all they desire.
