Pope Francis to Officiate Holy Week and Ascension Sunday Masses at Vatican Amid Health Concerns

Vatican City: Pope Francis will officiate at the Holy Week and Ascension Sunday Masses at the Vatican. The Vatican has published information about the Holy Week rites being performed during the Pope’s career amid concerns about the health condition of the Pope, who visited the hospital for check-ups.

The Holy Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, presided over by the Pope, will begin with a solemn procession of cardinals, bishops and the faithful wearing olivine sprigs. On Easter Thursday, March 28, Pope Francis will pay a private visit to Rome’s Rebibia Women’s Prison and celebrate Holy Mass there at 4 p.m. The Vatican has made it clear that this year’s Easter Thursday service will be private and will not be open to the public.

The Pope will officiate at the Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica on Good Friday. Then at 9.15pm, the Pope will lead the Way of the Cross prayer at the Colosseum in Rome with candles. The Easter Vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Holy Saturday evening, which will be officiated by the Pope. On Easter Sunday morning there will be a Holy Mass officiated by the Pope in St Peter’s Square at 10am, followed by the Pope’s Urbi et Orbi blessing for the city and the world at noon.
