Pope Francis will hold an online video conference called “Building Bridges” with college students from South Asia, scheduled for the afternoon of September 26.
(Vatican News Network) Pope Francis will hold an online video conference called “Building Bridges” with university students from all over South Asia. This is the third in a series of conversations between Pope Francis and young people on all continents, which will take place online on the afternoon of September 26, 2023. The virtual event is organized by the Pontifical Council for Latin America, the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University Chicago, and the Office of Global and Community Engagement.
The main purpose of this meeting is to respond to the Pope’s call to be a Church of like-mindedness. The online conversation between the Pope and college students has been held twice before, on February 24, 2022 with college students in the Americas and on November 1, 2022 with college students in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This time it was the turn of young students from different parts of South Asia. The event will be broadcast live in English, Spanish and Hindi via the YouTube website. These students come from universities and colleges in countries such as Pakistan, India and Nepal, and they come from a variety of subject backgrounds, including psychology, computer science, physics and economics.
These university students will be divided into 12 groups, and representatives of each group will speak with the Pope in a virtual meeting on September 26, 2023.
The purpose of the “Building Bridges” initiative is to start from the differences between different peoples and cultures and bridge these differences by “building bridges of faith”. It includes fostering mutual exchange of experiences, sharing of recommendations, and collaboration in current and future efforts to advance shared global goals of environmental sustainability, economic justice, and comprehensive human development.
