The head of the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine, Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, visited Pope Francis in connection with the Synod of the World Catholic Church that is going on at the Vatican. Speaking to the Vatican media, the archbishop said he wanted to tell the Holy Father about the situation in Ukraine, the tragedy of the war, and the challenges they face now and the winter is approaching. The archbishop shared that he was very sure during his meeting with the Holy Father of the attention that Pope Francis shows to the vulnerable people who suffer the most from everything that is happening in Ukraine.
To give a word of hope to a nation that is always in despair, Francis also presented the Pope with a pastoral letter on War and Peace, prepared by the Synod of Bishops of the Greek Catholic Church. Pope Francis thanked bishops, priests and religious for their heroic services to the people. And the Holy Father confirmed her prayers and blessings. Archbishop Francis thanked the Pope for still remembering the persecuted Ukraine and for what he did to release the two priests. About 6 million Ukrainians will experience a food crisis this winter. Therefore, the archbishop asked for everyone’s sincere help to the poor people of Ukraine.
