Humanitarian aid sent by Pope Francis has arrived in eastern Ukraine with a truckload of winter clothing, food supplies and pre-cooked meals for those fleeing war fronts.
Bishop Jan Sobilo of Zaporizhia expressed gratitude, highlighting the Pope’s constant support. “From the beginning of the war, in every forum and meeting, the Pope spoke about the war-torn Ukraine and very regularly sent us humanitarian aid. We distribute that aid to 1,500 people every day.” He said.
Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who is in charge of the Pope’s charity work, is coordinating the relief efforts. Recently, a Korean factory donated 300,000 prepared meals to the Vatican and sent them to Ukraine, along with other necessities, at the Pope’s request. Residents of dormitories prepared by the Vatican for the homeless also played a role in this mission. Cardinal Krajewski emphasized their cooperation, stating that they join the initiative because they want to help those who need it more than themselves. Among the most essential items Pope Francis sent to Ukraine were pre-cooked meals, flour, preserved tomatoes, pasta, coffee and sweets. Also, the warm clothing sent will be of great help to those on the war front as winter approaches.
Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizia, Mon. Jan Sobilo highlighted the importance of this help, which is being channeled through the Pope’s assistant, Cardinal Krajewski, and gave special thanks. Aid from the Pope is delivered to the Holy Father’s Pilgrimage Center in Zaporizhia and immediately distributed to those in need. Bishop Sobilo also revealed that distribution is given priority to those who had to leave their country and refugees from the war front.
He added that assistance is being provided to those who have shifted to other cities and lost their homes due to the bombing. He mentioned that those who receive this help are especially grateful for it. Since the start of the war, Pope Francis has regularly sent trucks with humanitarian aid to help those fleeing the conflict.
Bishop Jan Sobilo specifically expressed the gratitude of the Ukrainian people. “The people here are aware of the help of the Pope and warmly welcome all the messages of the Pope, because they know that the Pope speaks of them, cares for them, sends them significant help and blesses them.” Bishop Jan Sobilo specifically expressed the gratitude of the Ukrainian people.
Cardinal Konrad Kryevsky praised the brave Ukrainian drivers who ensure that aid reaches even the most dangerous areas of conflict. The truck left Rome on Saturday and arrived in Zaporizhia yesterday.
