Pope Francis on Ukraine war: “Don’t ruin humanity!”

In his address to the “Regina Coeli” prayer today in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis once again appealed to those responsible to end the war in Ukraine.

Pentecost is the festival when “different people, different races, different languages and cultures” meet and find each other. The Ukraine war, on the other hand, is “a direct denial of God’s dream”. “Nations that shoot and kill each other” are the opposite of what God intends for humanity.

The more the war escalates, the more dangerous the conflict will become for all of humanity, the Pope said. Literally he said:

“I renew my appeal to the leaders of nations: Do not ruin humanity!”

Once again the pontiff called for a peaceful solution to the conflict. “Listen to the desperate wailing of the suffering people we see on TV every day,” Francis appealed, “let us continue to pray and work for peace!”

The Holy Father also recalled the children of Yemen who have been suffering from the war for a long time and also commemorated the victims of the natural disaster in Brazil.
