Pope Francis Meets with Portuguese Prime Minister Costa and Discusses Cooperation and International Issues

An announcement from the Holy See Press Office stated that during cordial conversations held at the Holy See Council of State, the two sides “expressed their appreciation for the effective cooperation in the planning of World Youth Day and the Pope’s visit to Portugal from August 2 to 6 this year. Then, both parties mentioned the positive contribution that the Church has made to Portuguese society in the current socio-political context, as well as some issues of common interest.”

The announcement pointed out that during the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on “the international situation, with particular attention to the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the phenomenon of migration.”
