Pope Francis canceled all his appointments for the day this morning. According to a statement from the Vatican, it was due to mild flu. The 86-year-old pope would meet, among others, the president of Guinea-Bissau.
This afternoon the Pope was examined in hospital in Rome and underwent a CT scan. This showed that his lungs are fine.
Ailments
The Pope is now back in Vatican City. The leader of the Roman Catholic Church was hospitalized for three days in April due to bronchitis. In the summer of 2022, he spent most of his visit to Canada in a wheelchair due to persistent problems with his knee.
In June that year he also had surgery on his abdominal wall for the second time. He suffers from diverticulitis, a condition that is more common in older people. This causes bulges in the wall of the large intestine, which sometimes leads to inflammation.
The Pope is expected in Dubai next Friday for the annual climate conference. The Vatican spokesperson did not comment on this, indicating that his travel plans will go ahead.
