Pope Francis Holds Dialogue on Ecumenism and Interreligious Communion in Lisbon

On the morning of the third day in Lisbon, Pope Francis held a dialogue on ecumenism and interreligious communion. He met representatives of the Center for Intergovernmental Dialogue, as well as members of different faiths and Christian denominations in Portugal.

(Vatican News Network) On the morning of August 4, Pope Francis received members of the delegation of the Center for International Dialogue (KAICIID) in Portugal, accompanied by Cardinal Ayuso, Prefect of the Congregation for Interreligious Intercourse. Greeting the members of the delegation, the Pope thanked them for their visit, stressing the importance of fraternity and dialogue, as well as the dangers of closure and preaching.

The pope then held talks with Rahim Aga Khan, the son of the leader of the Ishmael community. The group has a center in Lisbon.

In addition, the Pope also met with a group involved in the work of the Portuguese Church to promote ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue. Its members include believers of different faiths and Christian denominations. The Pope thanked those present for their fraternity and commitment to dialogue. The Pope urged them to be concerned about young people, noting that young people are “lively but not superficial” and that they risk being “paralyzed” by the world around them.

Before lunch, the Pope also met briefly with Israeli journalist Henrique Cymerman.
