Pope Francis criticized disinformation and fake news, which he defined as “the first sin of journalism”, reported “France Presse”, quoted by BTA.
“Disinformation is the first of the sins, of the mistakes – let’s put it that way – of journalism,” the head of the Roman Catholic Church emphasized during an audience in the Vatican for the presentation of a journalistic award in the presence of Italian journalists.

According to the Pope, the sins of journalism are four: “disinformation, when a journalist does not inform or misinforms; assertions without evidence; slander… and the love of scandal.”
“For example, the manipulations by people who spread false news of interest to orient public opinion (in a certain direction) worry me,” Francis pointed out and called for responsibility in “the dramatic situation that Europe is going through, with the continuation of the war in Ukraine”.
“I hope that a place will be given to the voices of peace, to those who are committed to ending this, as well as so many other conflicts,” Pope Francis said.
