Pope Francis Continues to Recover and Thank Children for their Drawings

“Even last night went well.” With this brief communication, the Vatican Press Office let it be known in the early morning of today, Friday 9 June, that everything is proceeding in the best possible way for Francis. The Pope therefore rested regularly, also on the second night after his intervention on Wednesday 7 June. And in the evening the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, announced that “the post-operative course continues to be regular and normal. The Holy Father is afebrile, the hemodynamic parameters are normal, he suspended the drips and continued to feed on a liquid diet. The afternoon was gathered in prayer and was dedicated to work activities. In the evening he received the Eucharist”.

“Pope Francis – added Bruni – is touched by the numerous messages that he continues to receive in these hours; in particular he intends to address his thoughts and his thanks to the children at this moment hospitalized, for the affection and love received through their drawings and their messages. To them, as well as to the medical personnel, nurses, social health workers and spiritual assistants who daily touch pain with their hands, relieving its weight, he expresses his gratitude for their closeness and prayer “.

In the photos you can see indeed the drawings that the children of pediatric oncology sent him yesterday together with a tender letter. “Best wishes for a good recovery from the children and young people of pediatric oncology” of the Gemelli Polyclinic. “Dear Pope Francis – reads the letter -, we learned that you have not been so well and for this reason we share the same hospital. We really hope that you can recover as soon as possible to go back to carrying out your daily activities. Thank you for what you do for us and for coming to visit us several times; you are always welcome and we await you with open arms. From the children and young people of Pediatric Oncology (we hope you will appreciate our little thoughts)”.

Francesco, already in mid-afternoon had thanked with a tweet. “I sincerely thank you for the prayers and the many messages of closeness and affection that have arrived in these days. I pray for everyone, especially for those who are suffering. I ask you to continue to pray for me”.

And for the speedy recovery of the Pope, how let the diocese of Rome know, tomorrow, in St. Peter’s Square, there will be prayers at the Meeting of the fraternity with thirty Nobel Prize winners. Also the abbot of Montecassino, Antonio Luca Fallicaunderlines: “We are remembering Pope Francis both in personal and liturgical prayer but we are quite serene because the news coming from Gemini is comforting”.

Even yesterday the Holy See Press Office did not miss the news on the conditions of Pope Bergoglio. Shortly after 12.30 a new update arrived from the director of the Vatican Press Office, Matthew Bruni: “Pope Francis rested during the night. The medical team informs that the clinical picture is progressively improving and the post-operative course is regular. After breakfast His Holiness began to mobilize spending most of the morning in an armchair. This allowed him to read the newspapers and resume his initial work”.

Meanwhile, in view of Sunday, there are those who hope that the Pope will be able to recite the Angelus in some way, as he already did in 2021 after the first speech. But on that occasion a whole week had passed since the operation.
