Pope Francis asks for solidarity with Valencia in the face of the catastrophe caused by DANA

Pope Francis expressed his deep sorrow for the catastrophe that since October 29 has mainly affected the Spanish province of Valencia, which has caused more than 200 deaths. In that sense, the Supreme Pontiff called for increasing global solidarity to support those affected. “We continue praying for Valencia,” he indicated, while urging that, in these terrible moments, everyone ask themselves: What do I do for the Valencians? Do I offer something?, statements he issued after praying the Angelus, from the window of his study, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, before more than 30 thousand faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

According to a statement from the press office of the Holy See, the Pope also made a personal call to the bishop of Valencia, Enrique Benavent, and on October 31 sent a video message to the inhabitants of that city, where he expressed his closeness to this natural disaster caused by an Isolated High Level Depression (ALD).

This storm, meteorologically designated as a mesoscale connective system, caused torrential rains of up to 500 millimeters in some points, which caused several rivers to overflow on the Mediterranean slope and floods mainly in Valencia, with a death toll of 214 so far.

In that order of ideas, he called on the faithful to mobilize, not only spiritually, but also humanitarian aid, in the face of this situation that especially affects the Valencian people and that has also impacted the provinces of Albacete, Cuenca, Almería with less intensity. , Málaga, Córdoba, Seville, Huelva, Cádiz, Zaragoza and Teruel.
