Youm7 TV presented special coverage, prepared by Amani Al-Akhras and presented by Ahmed Al-Jaafari, about Pope Francis’ announcement, Pope He decided to shorten his funeral ceremony, and recommended that he be the first pope to be buried outside the Vatican in more than a century.

The Pope, who will be 87 years old, revealed his funeral plans in an interview with the Mexican N+ television channel.

In the interview conducted before the Pope presided over Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, he appeared to have recovered from bronchitis.

The Pope revealed that he was working with the head of ceremonies in the Vatican, Diego Ravelli, to simplify the complex and long funeral ceremonies that were applied to his ancestors, noting that because of his devotion to the Virgin Mary, he decided to be buried in the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Rome, where he usually goes to pray before and after his foreign trips.

The funeral Mass itself is expected to be held in St. Peter’s Square, where many popes are buried beneath St. Peter’s Basilica.

The last pope to be buried outside the Vatican was Leo XIII, who died in 1903 and was buried in the Cathedral of St. John Lateran in Rome.

Pope Francis said that he would be prepared to step down from his position, as Benedict did in 2013, if his health condition deteriorated, but he also believes that the Pope’s resignation should not become a rule.
