Basically, popcorn lung is a condition where the airways in the lungs narrow, causing coughing and shortness of breath.
This condition is caused by the taste-enhancing chemical diacetyl. These ingredients are commonly added to food to give it a buttery flavor, like popcorn.
These chemicals are said to be more dangerous when heated and inhaled, as in vape. Long inhalation can cause obliterative bronchiolitis Also known as popcorn.

Diacetyl is added to the liquid vape to complement flavors like vanilla, apple and more.
A study conducted by a research team at Harvard University found that 39 out of 51 e-cigarette brands contained diacetyl. The study also found that two similar dangerous chemicals – pentanedione and acetoin – were found in 23 and 46 of the 51 tested flavors.
