REPORT: A pop-up full of Italian food, drink and music has arrived at the Holešovice Market. Despite the rather unpleasant weather, it attracted hundreds of people who enjoyed traditional pizzas, stuffed focaccia and pasta. English was mainly heard from the tables.
Thursday, October 12 belonged to Italian food and drink in the Holešovice Market. Traditional pizza, focaccia, pasta, wine and Aperol were served here from 11 o’clock in the morning. Even the gloomy weather accompanied by light rain did not stop the visitors.
We arrived at the place after five o’clock in the afternoon, at the time of greatest pressure. Queues were already forming at about a dozen food stalls. However, the wait for the food did not last more than 15 minutes, and it was accompanied by stylish Italian music.

Food delivery chaos
It was not possible to pay by card in most of the stalls, which surprised some visitors on the spot. The queue for the delivery of food seemed a little disorganized to us, when the waiting customers created more of a rush, and in the resulting chaos, no one knew whose order was being delivered. The situation was further complicated by the fact that the vast majority of visitors did not speak Czech.
There were many snacks to choose from with an average price of around 250 crowns. For example, Pizza Margharita with tomato, parmesan, mozzarella and basil cost 245 crowns at one of the stalls, and at the same place you could also get your fill of Pizza Diavola with Ventricina salami for 255 crowns. In all cases, it was a freshly baked pizza from an Italian oven with a diameter of about 25 centimeters.
The stand expressed its opinion on the traditionally unpopular Hawaii pizza with pineapple at a price of 10,000 crowns.

Few food stands in Prague have become as famous as the one with ham on the Old Town Square. He was and is being talked about above all…
The higher prices were compensated by the great taste
The neighboring kitchen offered stuffed focaccia, a traditional Italian soft pastry. There were four types to choose from, with the cheapest Mortadella Focaccia containing mortadella salami, mozzarella, rocket, tomatoes and olive oil costing 205 crowns. The most expensive Focaccia Salsiccia for 255 offered Italian Salsiccia sausage, baby spinach, Pecorino cheese and truffle sauce. The menu also included focaccia with Parma ham for 239 and vegetarian Caprese for 229.
We just tasted the focaccia and it was very good. We were especially impressed by the combination of fresh ingredients and lightly toasted fluffy pastry. And even though the portion seemed rather small at first glance, it was enough as a dinner for a less hungry person. Even so, the price in relation to the size was quite overkill for our taste. However, we can’t say we didn’t enjoy it.

Legendary Aperol, wine and beer
Good food had to be washed down with good drink. The price of Italian wine was around 70 crowns per deck. There was a choice of white, red and sparkling. Of course, there was also the traditional Italian cocktail Aperol Spritz with a price tag of 120 crowns. Beer lovers also got their money’s worth. Half a liter of lager cost 60 kroner, beer specials 90 kroner.
Holešovická tržnice is preparing a similar event for Thursday, November 2, when gastro establishments focused on Mexican cuisine will be presented. As part of the celebration of the Day of the Dead Day of the Dead visitors can look forward to quesadillas, burritos, tacos, burgers, wine and tequila.
