Institutions, companies and innovative start-ups presented themselves in the “Pop-up Innovation” pilot project in the Unterlinden district of Freiburg. 90 percent would take part again.
The temporary exhibition and event area “Pop-up Innovation” offered a wide range of innovations from science, business and society from July 16th to 31st in the Unterlinden district. In order to make Freiburg’s potential as a location for innovation and science visible and tangible and at the same time to reduce vacancies, Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM) developed a concept for a six-week pop-up area. Institutions and companies as well as innovative start-ups were given the opportunity to present themselves here.
As reported by FWTM, 20 exhibitors took advantage of the offer and filled the vacant shop property with life with a wide-ranging programme. The Freiburg University Hospital kicked things off. Other exhibitors included the Albert Ludwigs University, Furtwangen University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, the Evangelical Foundation, the Thales Academy, Nexus Experiments and various companies and institutions. The Wabe Waldkirch showed the audio and art installation “Rethinking work” the Center for Intelligent Machine Brain Interfacing Technology (Imbit)) the art exhibition “Mind Art Technology”. Most recently, Stryker Leibinger was there together with the two start-ups Dermagnostix and Cytena. Overall, the participants were very satisfied, according to the FWTM – 90 percent would take part again at a follow-up event.
The Department for Digital and IT (Digit) will use the area from August 31 to 31 with campaigns on the topic of “Smart City” and digitization. The pop-up innovation was made possible by the support of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau, which made the shop space available.
