American pop star Aaron Carter drowned in his bath last year after using various substances. This is according to the report of the coroner who investigated the cause of death.
The 34-year-old artist, the younger brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, was found dead in a bathtub at his home in Lancaster, California, in November. At the autopsy, the sedative drug Xanax was found in his body. In addition, the gas difluoroethane was also found, according to the report “a gas commonly used in aerosol air freshener cans”. The agent can give euphoric feelings when inhaled.
The two substances together caused him to become unwell in the bath and drown, the report notes.
Relapse
Police officers had visited Carter a day before his death after a report that he had inhaled a substance live on Instagram. They left again after Carter asked them to leave. The next day, he was found dead in his bathtub by a housekeeper.
The coroner’s report described Carter as “a celebrity with a history of substance abuse”. He had also come into contact with the police on several occasions. He had professional help to manage his use, but he is said to have had a relapse in the period before his death.
Aaron Carter became known as a child in the 90s, with hits like I Want Candy. He also opened for the Back Street Boys and Britney Spears and later appeared on several TV shows, including House of Carters in Dancing With the Stars.
