Pontus Jansson’s Return to Malmö FF: Ready to Play

Allsvenskan

MALMÖ. Pontus Jansson is ready to play for Malmö FF’s next match.
However, the centre-back does not have the last word regarding playing time, given a previous injury.
– If it had been up to me, I would have driven now, says Jansson.

Today Pontus Jansson did his first training in Malmö FF after the move from Brentford. The 32-year-old centre-back was plagued by injuries this past Premier League season and last played on 8 April.

However, Jansson assured at today’s press conference that he is ready to play in MFF’s next match, on Sunday against Mjällby AIF. He says about today’s training.

– It was fun, a little tense, I must say., There were a few people on site today too. It has been difficult to deal with the emotions that have been there recently. But it’s just as good to deal with these emotions that have come now, also from the end in Brentford, says Jansson.

How is your physical status?
– It is as good as it can be. I drove well for six or seven weeks at the end at Brentford. It’s a similar game, so I feel great. I’m feeling very game, I’m as ready as I can be. If it had been up to me, I would have run now, but that is up to the physical team to decide together with the coaches. I could not have done more than I have done. Mentally, I haven’t been more recovered in six or seven years. The dialogue with the physio team is good and I trust them.

He was presented before kick-off when MFF met IK Sirius last Saturday and received a standing ovation from the crowd at Eleda Stadium. It is, to say the least, an expectant Jansson who is back for a second stay in sky blue.

– I have missed it, I have longed for this day. Somehow painted the picture after all these years abroad, how it will be when you get home and so on. Now that you’ve done it and you’re here, I think it’s hard to deal with, because it’s been something you’ve been building up for so long. Being presented together with my daughter last Saturday and all the family there – you shouldn’t take such things for granted in life sometimes. It was incredibly nice and these are things that I will probably understand later in life. It has been an enormous amount of luck, he says to Fotbollskanalen.

Pontus Jansson played 128 games for Malmö between 2009-2014.
