Pontianak (ANTARA) – Pontianak City Government through the Education and Culture Service (Disdikbud) sent a circular to all primary and middle school principals, both public and private in Pontianak City to raise awareness increase in cases of parotitis or mumps.
“Although no case of plague has been detected in Pontianak City, this step was taken to prevent and increase awareness of diseases caused by viral diseases, especially among children,” Pontianak Acting Mayor Ani Sofian said in in Pontianak, Monday.
He explained that in letter number 400.2.5/6013.1/DIKDAS-DISDIKBUD/2024, every educational unit was advised to take measures to prevent and control the spread of hiccups in the school environment.
“If a case of mumps occurs in a school, immediately notify the community health center in the respective school district,” he said.
He said parotitis is a disease caused by a viral infection that causes inflammation of the parotid glands on the face.
“This disease is caused by a viral infection from the paramyxovirus group that attacks the salivary glands (parotid glands) in the mouth,” he explained.
He emphasized that schools must actively monitor through the UKS network to monitor the development of disability issues in schools. This step is taken as an early detection of lumps.
“If students, educators and educational staff are identified as having barriers, they are asked not to interact in the school for at least seven days after the symptoms appear,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pontianak City Education and Culture Office Head Sri Sujiharti explained that schools have also been asked to reach out intensively and educate about parotitis or mumps.
“The UKS team is coordinating with local health centers to spread awareness about pests in schools as a prevention effort,” he said.
Then, Sri continued, if there are signs of cases of mumps in schools, it is recommended to wear masks for at least seven days after the last case is announced.
“It is hoped that this measure will help control the spread of mumps cases in the school environment and protect the health of the residents of the school in Pontianak Town,” he said.
SMPN 24 Pontianak Chief, Teguh Santoso, said that his party had started doing outreach through the UKS Team in collaboration with the Bali City Health Center.
“We have reached out to prevent bumps as early as possible,” he said.
He said his party had collaborated with the Bali Village Community Health Center to prevent disease. Even community health center officials also visit schools regularly to provide information on disease prevention.
“Not only is there socialization about plugs, the supply of blood supplement tablets to prevent stunting is still going on today,” he said.
