Compare this “conflict of interest” with Calviño’s husband’s signature as National Heritage Marketing Coordinator
MADRID, December 12 (PRESS EUROPE) –
The Deputy Institutional Secretary of the PP, Estaban González Pons, asked this Monday that Clara Martínez de Careaga García, wife of Cándido Conde-Pumpido, abstain from voting in the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) for the Magistrate of the Constitution Tribunal (TC) that she will elect the president of this body, given that her husband is among the candidates.
In an interview on Telecinco, collected by Europa Press, the PP leader assured that the government has “a problem with conflict of interest” by having Conde Pumpido’s wife as a member of the body for the election of judges.
“Under these conditions, she will be able to choose the magistrate of the Constitutional Court who will have to choose her husband as president of the Constitutional Court”, explained Pons, who believes that “she should abstain or be challenged”.
In any case, he warned that what could happen with Cándido Conde Pumpido in the election of magistrates in the Council is “like the case of Vice-President Calviño, but in the judicial field”, alluding to the signature of Ignacio Manrique de Lara as National Coordinator of Marketing of the Heritage.
In fact, the PP will take advantage of the forthcoming government control session in the plenary session of the Congress to ask for explanations from the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, for the hiring of Vice President Nadia Calviño’s husband in National Heritage .
The Patrimonio Nacional defended Manrique de Lara’s hiring process, noting that he obtained the “highest score” in the criteria assessed for the position and emphasizing that his remuneration is “below the average salary for this type of position in the private sector”.
