Ponorogo, East Java (ANTARA) – The Ponorogo District Health Office, East Java has accelerated the implementation of stage 1 and 2 PCV (Pneumococcal Conjugation Vaccine) vaccinations for infants and toddlers and is targeting completion by the end of 2021.
“We are targeting PCV immunization to touch all babies born starting April 2021. It can be completed this year (2021),” said the Head of Disease Eradication and Control (P2P) of the Ponorogo District Health Office drg Heni Lastari in Ponorogo, Friday.
He emphasized that the target of PCV vaccination this time was to target all babies born starting April 2021.
Acceleration is carried out by “piggybacking” on the first DPT immunization (infants aged two months) and the second DPT (infants aged three months).
With this method, the administration of PCV 1 and 2 vaccines is adjusted according to the schedule for the first DPT and second DPT immunizations. So in addition to DPT immunization, babies are also given the PCV vaccine according to a predetermined schedule.
“This effort is a step to prevent the increase in cases of pneumonia or pneumonia due to bacteria, especially in infants and toddlers,” explained Heni.
Heni added that DPT immunization is immunization for diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus. DPT immunization is a routine immunization from the government for newborns, which is given at the age of two months, then three months and four months.

The PCV vaccine is a new vaccine that was initially released in eight cities/districts of East Java in June 2021. The procedure is that the PCV vaccine is given to infants aged two months, three months and 12 months.
From the similarity of time, namely the age of two months and three months, the Health Office will simultaneously provide DPT immunization with PCV vaccination.
“For those who are 12 months old, they will be given according to the schedule prepared by the village midwives and the posyandu,” said Heni after filling out the questionnaire the day before. talk show entitled “Let’s Take Care of Indonesian Children from Pneumonia” which was held on Radio Gema Surya FM Ponorogo.
It was stated, the results of reports from the Puskesmas and Polindes in Ponorogo until October 2021, there were 925 cases of pneumonia in toddlers. Meanwhile, in 2020, there were 1,703 cases of pneumonia in children under five. “The numbers 925 and 1,700 are a lot, you know,” he said.
Heni continued, PCV immunization in Ponorogo has started in June 2021. PCV immunization is applied to babies starting April 2021. Provision of PCV immunization starts in June in accordance with the PCV vaccine introduction (introduction) program in eight cities/districts in East Java.
The introduction program was released by Minister of Health Budi G Sadikin in June 2021. For data on the achievement of the PCV vaccine in Ponorogo, stage 1 is around 18.04 percent and stage 2 is 10.02 percent.
“The third is not yet. We consider our achievements to be good, the public is enthusiastic. Because if you inject yourself, the price is almost one million,” said Heni.
