The professionals of the Hospital de Poniente have carried out more than 319,000 sanitary acts during the first half of 2021. Between January and June of this year, its facilities have treated more than 59,000 emergencies, 123,000 specialized consultations, 5,000 surgeries and a total of 1,070 births, while the center continues its expansion and renovation process.
In the Emergency area, in the first half of the year, a total of 59,994 visits were made, which places the influx to this service on an average of 331 per day. Of the total visits to the Emergency Department, more than 90% have been resolved with the discharge of the patient to his home.
On the occasion of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Emergency Department has created a double healthcare circuit, with areas reserved for patients with suspected COVID, differentiated from the rest. Likewise, the center has pioneered the implementation of a ‘tele-consultation’, aimed at patients who come to the emergency department with respiratory symptoms. This telematic consultation makes it possible to speed up care as much as possible, while helping to minimize the risks of exposure, both for the patient and for the healthcare professionals themselves.
Throughout 2021, professionals have carried out a total of 123,614 specialized external consultations, of which 45,907 were first visits and 77,707, successive reviews and consultations. More than 76% of the first visits have been resolved through ‘Single Act’, in which, during the same session, the patient is seen by the specialist, diagnostic tests are performed and goes home with a diagnosis and a prescribed treatment.
Specialties
By specialties, the volume of consultations attended stands out in Ophthalmology, with more than 17,000, followed by Traumatology, with 15,949, Rehabilitation, with 11,641, and Gynecology and Obstetrics, where 9,668 and 8,905 assistances were performed respectively.
The Surgical Block of the center has hosted 5,516 interventions. Most of them correspond to major ambulatory surgery operations (CMA), with 2,821; and minor ambulatory surgery (cma), with 809. These types of interventions, less invasive, do not require subsequent admission of the patient and facilitate a faster recovery. In addition, the operating rooms have received 676 scheduled interventions with subsequent admission of the patient and 1,210 of an urgent nature.
The delivery rooms of the Hospital de Poniente have welcomed throughout the first six months of this year a total of 1,059 deliveries, in which 1,070 babies have entered the world. On 495 occasions, mothers have carried out labor aided by the use of analgesia, to reduce pain.
For surgical interventions or for diagnosis in specialized consultations or in the emergency department, a multitude of tests are necessary, which are carried out mainly in the area of Diagnostic Imaging or in the consultations themselves, as well as the analysis of biological samples that is carried out in Biotechnology.
The Diagnostic Imaging area has carried out in the first half of this year 721,179 conventional studies, 9,074 computerized axial tomography (CT) scans, 20,052 ultrasounds, 1,564 mammograms, 285 remote control studies and 630 interventional radiology tests. To these tests are added 4,612 mammographic studies performed in the breast cancer screening program.
In Biotechnology, during this same period, 2.7 million analyzes have been carried out. The center’s laboratory has processed 160,285 PCR tests for the diagnosis of Covid-19 and has carried out 2,122,126 determinations of clinical analyzes, more than 215,000 microbiological determinations; 377,521 hematometric determinations, 5,601 biopsies and 6,074 cytologies.
