The WHO lost its biggest lender due to Trump’s decision. The US accounted for $ 400 million to $ 500 million annually. The White House believes that China has too much influence within the WHO.
No alternative
The State Department is now said to have concluded that there is still money to be invested in certain WHO activities in Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria and Turkey. Other organizations would not have the contacts or the means to achieve sufficient results there.
