Madonna has arrived at the Porta Stabia entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site. Six minivans with tinted windows have crossed the gate, amid the shouts of those present. The pop star will make a private visit to the park accompanied by director Gabriel Zuchtriegel.
Fans who had been waiting for hours (some had been outside Porta Stabia since 6pm) crowded outside the gate, controlled by the police, and chanted Madonna’s name.
The pop star, accompanied by about thirty people including her boyfriend Akeem Morris, did not decide to stop and headed under escort inside the archaeological excavations, where she should visit, guided by director Zuchtriegel, selected areas such as the Theater District, the House of Menander and the House of the Ceii.
According to some sources, a stage has also been set up in the area of the Teatro Grande (which was initially indicated as the place where Madonna would celebrate her 66th birthday together with at least 300 guests) where some performances specifically designed for the occasion are scheduled.
Organizational aspects that could be modified, however, given the delay with which the artist arrived at the entrance of Porta Stabia (she was expected between 8 and 9 pm, she arrived shortly after 10.30 pm).
The wait
The city of Pompeii awaits Madonna, the pop star who turns 66 today and who has expressed her desire to visit the site
archaeological.
“We are here for our “devotion” and having her here, in our region, is a dream come true because we would never have imagined it. And so it is an honor”, admits Francesco. Valeria, another fan, adds: “In twenty-nine years I finally have the chance to see her. A feeling that cannot be described”. “A desire, a dream to see her after so many years”, says Emanuela who comes from nearby Castellammare di Stabia with her daughter.
Outside the excavations, among groups of tourists braving the scorching heat, there are also the inevitable souvenir sellers: “We’ve known for days, I think it’s good news for the city,” they admit. And then: “The arrival of Madonna? It’s positive for the city, it’s a privilege that she will enter in the evening when the excavations are closed.”
Meanwhile, in Piazza Porta Marina Inferiore, several fans of the pop star have already been waiting for hours under the sun.
Waiting fans sing the most famous songs
They dance to Madonna’s most famous songs and wish their darling a happy birthday. The American pop star’s fans, who have grown to about a hundred, kill the wait outside the Porta Stabia entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site, where Madonna is expected for a private visit to celebrate her 66th birthday.
There was a massive deployment of law enforcement and municipal police but there is still relative calm, a sign that the artist’s arrival is not yet imminent.
