For its last edition at 2M2C in Montreux before the renovation, the Polymanga festival confirmed its popularity with the public by exceeding the 50,000 visitor mark. The next meeting will take place in Beaulieu Lausanne.
Attendance remains at a level equal to that of last year, when for the first time the symbolic bar of 50,000 visitors was crossed, noted the festival on Monday in a press release. As usual, the event had its share of surprises and innovations, in a good-natured atmosphere.
From Japan to the United States, more than 50 international guests took turns over four days: actors, musicians, K-pop dancers, tik-tokers, streamers, voice actors, illustrators. Among the headliners, the actor of “Game of Thrones” Isaac Hempstead-Wright and the stars of the series Kaamelott, Nicolas Gabion (chevalier Bohort) and Bô Gaultier de Kermoal (bodyguard of Attila the Hun) have notably made the trip to Montreux.
Animation was also in the spotlight with the first images unveiled of Rising of the Shield Hero (Crunchyroll). They were presented in person by its illustrator Seira Minami and its producer Kôsuke Arai.
Best cosplayers
The first selection of the Polymanga Swiss Cosplay League (PSCL), bringing together the best cosplayers from several conventions across the country, was sold out. The two Stravinsky and Miles Davis halls vibrated to the rhythm of the many concerts offered, in particular the thunderous performance of Baby Beard, the idol/metal group, which attracted a large audience.
David Heim, the founder of the festival, has already announced that Polymanga will take over the halls and the theater of Beaulieu, in Lausanne, during its next edition, due to the renovation of the 2M2C. The date has already been set for March 29 to April 1, 2024.
The POLYMANGA festival is the biggest Swiss event around pop culture, hosting concerts, screenings, video game tournaments, cosplay contests, karaoke. It attracts one of the youngest audiences in Europe (more than a third of visitors are under 18) as well as families.
