MODENA. The Modena University Hospital announces that a 79-year-old patient admitted to internal medicine at the Modena Polyclinic tested positive for COVID 19 and that all the necessary measures have therefore been activated to assess and contain the possible infection, subjecting the patients and operators with swabs and active surveillance which for now has shown the positivity of a second patient, 71 years old, hospitalized in the nearby bed.
The patient had been hospitalized on 15 September 2020, coming from the Emergency Department, after having stopped in the filter area and carried out the negative swab. At the usual check before discharge, a new swab was carried out – as required by company procedures – which was instead positive.
“First of all I want to reassure that at the moment the two patients are in good condition – explains the Director General of the AOU of Modena, Dr. Claudio Vagnini – At the moment they have been transferred to Infectious Diseases, but they could be discharged soon. As mentioned, checks are underway on staff and other patients in order to reconstruct the chain of contagion. The situation is constantly monitored. The control system worked and this is important. “
