Handball player Estavana Polman made her comeback on Wednesday evening after a serious knee injury. The 28-year-old international of Orange came in fifteen minutes before the end in the league match of her Danish club Esbjerg against Silkeborg.
The first shot from Polman, who made her comeback after 238 days with a 25-16 lead, was immediately hit. She then scored three more times. Esbjerg won in Silkeborg 37-22.
Polman tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee more than eight months ago. Without the build-up player, Orange played a disappointing European Championship as world champion at the end of last year.
At the beginning of this month, Polman rejoined the national team, which started the preparation for the Olympic Games with two friendly matches against Slovenia. The Arnhem native remained sidelined in those duels.
“I can do everything again, but I am not 100 percent yet,” she said at the time. “I have to play games, take blows with my knee and get confidence. I lie when I say that the injury is no longer in my head.”
With Esbjerg, the reigning champion, Polman now plays in the play-offs for the national title. She hopes to be in top shape soon to participate with the Orange in the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer.
