It’s not going well. After several days on persistent alert, the North has been above the alert level since Friday. The prefecture has therefore announced that it will renew differentiated traffic in several cities in the Lille metropolitan area from Monday March 28.for at least 24 hours”. In the meantime, speed limit measures on the main roads are still in effect this weekend.
“The alert level should be reached for the North today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). This episode of pollution began on Monday March 21 in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais.” The latest press release Atmo, the regional air observatory, goes straight to the point: it hasn’t been good to breathe since last Monday in the North.
In addition to our own emissions, Atmo indicates that this episode of pollution is also explained by “an arrival of an air mass loaded with particles from the east“. And the weather conditions of the week are pleasant but do not allow these particles to be dispersed properly.
Suddenly, unsurprisingly, the prefecture is renewing the measures put in place for several days, in particular on the roads of the North, Pas-de-Calais and now the Somme. The speed is therefore always temporarily limited:
- at 110 km/h on portions of motorways normally limited to 130 km/h
- at 90 km/h on portions of motorways and national and departmental roads normally limited to 110 km/h
- at 80 km/h for trucks over 3.5 tonnes
