In the eleven municipalities where it was possible to vote for a new municipal council, the polling stations have now been closed. The polling stations closed at 9 p.m., with the first results expected around midnight. The final result will be determined on Monday.
In total, more than 250,000 voters live in the eleven municipalities. It was already possible to vote at some of the polling stations on Monday and Tuesday.
The ballot box is the result of reclassification operations. The eleven municipalities in North Holland and North Brabant will be merged into four on 1 January, reducing the number of municipalities in the Netherlands to 345.
Incidentally, no regular municipal elections will be held in the municipalities in question in March next year, as is the case in the rest of the Netherlands.
