Pollen information The peak of pollen dispersion continues until the 31st with yellow dust. How long will it be until full-fledged dispersion ends?

March 29, 2024 09:07

A large amount of pollen will be scattered into next week. However, the pollen season has come to an end, and the end is gradually in sight. Full-scale dispersal is likely to occur in many places until mid-April.

Pollen scattering continues to peak

The amount of pollen scattered in Sendai will be ranked “very high” every day until the middle of next week. It looks like there will be a large amount of dust scattered from Kanto to Kyushu every day. Today, the 29th (Friday), it will be easy for pollen to fly after the rain.

In addition, yellow dust is expected to fly over a wide area from Kyushu to Hokkaido until the 31st (Sunday). It has been reported that flying yellow dust is associated with allergic symptoms such as eyes, nose, and skin, respiratory diseases, and circulatory system diseases. Please take proper precautions, such as checking the forecast for yellow dust and wearing a mask.

How long does cedar/cypress pollen last?

Shortly after cypress pollen reaches its peak, the full-scale dispersal of pollen will end from Kyushu to Tohoku. Full-scale pollen dispersal, in which pollen counts of 10 or more particles per square centimeter are observed, will not begin until early April in Kyushu, and mid-April in many areas from Chugoku and Shikoku to Tohoku. Parts of the Tokai region are expected to last until late April.

However, even after full-scale dispersal has finished, there will still be days when pollen will be slightly scattered in various places until around early May. If you are sensitive to pollen, please continue to take precautions.

Birch pollen in Hokkaido is expected to start dispersing in late April. Birch pollen in Hokkaido tends to start flying earlier when the temperature is high in spring (March to May). Although temperatures in March have remained lower than normal this year, temperatures in April and May are expected to be at or above normal. For this reason, birch pollen will start dispersing as early as usual.
